On Friday evening, I’ve been attending a really interesting lecture by Charlie Todd here in Munich. Even if you don’t know the name, you’ve most likely seen one of his videos. Charlie Todd is the founder of “Improv Everywhere”, a group that “causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places”, as they describe themselves. One of their most watched videos is the “Frozen Grand Central” video, a “freeze” flashmob.
At the talk in Munich, Charlie Todd told us how he got the idea to do “urban pranks”, how it developed and what it is like to do this kind of things. Of course we watched lots of videos – you can watch them in the Improv Everywhere YouTube Channel. Here’s my favourite video from the talk, alongside the fantastic “Food Court Musical”:
The videos are fun to look at and really made my day. Charlie Todd obviously knows what he’s doing. Yesterday, he helped organizing a “swarm” flashmob in Munich and it sounded like lots of fun, too. Maybe there will be a video, too?

I like the escalator high five too – great moment when all the busy people suddenly start smiling :-)
Seems Munich still has to catch up on how to ’swarm’ but looking forward to seeing more of this!
Since Monday I always have a big smile on my face while standing on an escalator. Someone should do something like this in Munich! ;-)
Looks like there will be more “swarms” in Munich, soon: http://www.blog.urbanaut.org/happenings/#schwarm01
I enjoyed listening to him and his stories as well…very funny – and inspiring!!
The next oportunity to join the “flash-swarm” is November 10th in Munich, let´s all hop in! :-D
Here´s more inspiration for what you can do on tubes!
